Following the warmly received singles 'Sober' and 'Alive', BLUAI return today with 'It's Gotta Be Me', released just ahead of the band's appearance at Belgium's Pukkelpop festival this weekend. After two previous performances at the festival, BLUAI will take to the Marquee stage on Sunday.
Built around delicate fingerpicked guitars and an understated arrangement, 'It's Gotta Be Me' unfolds the painful moment when holding on is no longer the kindest thing to do. As the band explains: "The song is about the moment you realise that staying together no longer makes either person happy. Sometimes there's only one thing left to do: be the one who walks away."
Like 'Sober' and 'Alive', 'It's Gotta Be Me' was recorded at London's iconic RAK Studios and produced by Isabelle Gracefield, whose previous work as an engineer includes PJ Harvey and Dua Lipa. Once again, BLUAI and Gracefield favour restraint over excess, giving every note and every lyric the space it deserves.
