In the spring of 2025, Het Zesde Metaal unveiled a series of new songs during their theater tour. Music that audiences could only experience live. That changes now: ‘Randgevallen’, recorded at DAFT Studios in Waimes with the band’s renewed line-up (featuring Kasper Cornelus on guitar/keys and Sander Verstraete on bass), finally captures five of those stories in sound.
The EP moves between playful and reflective: from the bright pop pulse of ‘Service’, skewering our hunger for ratings and approval, to the tender ‘Traagskes Groeien’, a quiet meditation on children growing up. ‘Oud En Nieuw’ drifts into a hypnotic reflection on transience, while ‘Label’ playfully questions the urge to categorize people. The closing track, a moving rendition of Willem Vermandere’s ‘Duizend Soldaten’, anchors the release with timeless gravitas.
Produced by Frederik Segers and mixed by Jasper Maekelberg, ‘Randgevallen’ once again proves Het Zesde Metaal’s gift for sharp observation and emotional storytelling. Equal parts witty, poignant, and disarming. The EP is out now, accompanied by a renewed and expanded theater tour through Belgium and the Netherlands.
